Clear vs Low Iron Glass: What is the difference?

Clear shower glass has a slight green hue to it. It is the most popular type of shower glass and also the most economical.
The lower iron content in the glass is what removes the green from the glass. When you walk by an Apple store and look through the front windows, it is impressively clear glass. That is low-iron glass. There is a slight baby blue hue on the outside edge of low-iron glass. One glass is not stronger or otherwise different from the other.
Why do customers choose low-iron over clear? There are many reasons and it comes down to personal preference. Some customers have intricately designed and/or colorful tiles or mosaic patterns and when they look through the glass they want to see the true colors. Some customers just like the look of low-iron or don’t like the green hue….
What is the cost to upgrade from clear to low-iron glass? The cost difference to upgrade from clear to low-iron shower glass for most showers is $300-$400. Some of our competitors charge much more for low-iron and consider it a luxury glass and it is a luxury glass, but the truth is that it’s just a little more expensive than clear glass on a per sq. ft basis. There are only a few suppliers of shower glass to installers across New England and we all buy our glass from the same suppliers.
