Considerations When Designing Your New Shower

Shower Glass Options

A sample of the four most popular types of shower glass we install can be seen in this photo.

Clear Shower Glass: As shown in the bottom left of the photo, this is the most economical and common type of shower glass we install.

Low-Iron Clear Shower Glass: Shown in the bottom right of the photo, this is a high-clarity glass. It is considered the premium version of clear glass. The angle of the photo was intentional to show the slight green tint in the clear glass and the barely-there slight blue hue in the Low-Iron shower glass.

Frosted Shower Glass: Shown in the top right of the photo, this is commonly used for privacy.

Rain Shower Glass: Shown in the top left of the photo, this shower glass provides a lower level of privacy than the frosted shower along with a texture that is commonly facing outward from the wet area.

Shower Hardware Options

The styles and color combinations are endless. With a few questions from our team, we can quickly narrow it down and suggest the most appropriate shower hardware that looks beautiful, feels “solid” and is manufactured to a very high quality standard.

We source most of our shower glass hardware from CRLaurence.

When designing your frameless glass shower door and panel, the hardware to identify are the glass shower door hinges, shower door/panel clips and brackets, and which type of handle, towel bar, nob, or combination you want to put on the shower glass door.

Importantly, there is no need to get overwhelmed looking through CRLaurence’s frameless shower hardware catalog. Let our team ask you a series of questions to quickly narrow down your options.

Shower Hardware Finishes

We tend to match the shower glass hardware finish to the finish of your shower hardware, but there are many options and the decision is yours.

The price point across the most popular finishes (chrome, matte black, brushed nickel, bronze) are very similar and typically included in our estimate.

How much does a new frameless glass shower door cost?

Great question. Our answer always starts with “it depends” and usually after a few minute conversation ends with a number between $1,200 and $5,000, but it entirely depends on the type and size of the shower and hardware you want to use.

Here are a few questions we will ask in our first conversation:

What are the dimensions of the shower and how high will the glass go? For a quick estimate, measurement accuracy within one inch is sufficient. You can share a photo, architectural plan, or hand-drawn scribble of the shower with the measurements noted via email or text. Regarding glass height, for steam showers the glass runs up to the ceiling, otherwise customers typically end the glass about a foot from the ceiling. If our estimate looks good to proceed working with us, we will schedule a time to come out for precise measurements.

What type of shower glass do you want to use in your shower? The most common request is for clear or low-iron shower glass. The size and quantity of glass panels will affect the price.

Do you want the 3/8” thick shower glass or the thicker 1/2” glass? For residential installations, 3/8” shower glass is almost always the choice. Our shower glass comes tempered and is stronger than you think.

Where is your shower glass door project located? Location matters. We serve eastern Massachusetts, Rhode Island, the cape and Islands.

Which finish do you want for the hardware installed in your frameless shower glass enclosure? Most customers go with the chrome, brushed nickel, matte black, or bronze hardware to match their shower hardware, but the choice is yours.

Which shower door hardware do you want to use? Most customers like to match the color of the hardware used in the rest of their bathroom. If you don’t have a strong preference, let us help you decide.

When do you want your shiny new shower glass installed? It takes about 2.5 weeks from order to install.

Customer Frequently Asked Questions:

Is there a discount for multiple showers? Yes because we can install multiple showers in the same trip, saving us time and you money. Our material costs are the same and install still takes ~1-3 hours per shower depending on a number of variables we will discuss with you.

How soon can I use the shower after install? You can shower immediately after we finish, it is just glass. However, we always add a bead of silicone around the edge of the panels to keep the water inside the shower area and it is a good idea to allow the silicone 12+ hours to firm up.

Do you have insurance? Yes.

Have you ever broken a glass panel or door? Yes, once in over a thousand installs. It was an unfortunate mistake that occurred before the glass got to the customers home.

How do you get such accurate measurements? We use a laser to account for walls that may not be perfectly plumb. When you measure to the nearest 1/16 of an inch, every 1/16 of an inch matters to the precision glass cutting machines. If you are home when we come out to measure we will be happy to show you.

What are the payment terms? Half of the quoted amount is due to secure the order and get on our install schedule. The remaining balance is due on installation day. We accept cash, check, ACH, Zelle, credit cards and Venmo.
